The second wave of COVID-19 has devastated India with a meteoric rise in the number of new infections and deaths. The outbreak of the new coronavirus is overwhelming for all the front-line warriors such as healthcare providers and police. STAYING HOME has become the only mantra to combat the situation.

The working class is busy working from home but WHAT ABOUT STUDENTS who are confused and do not know what to do? This group is the future of our country and their mental well-being cannot be ignored during this tough period. They see everything around is depressing and it affects their mental wellness.

Like Erma Bombeck said, “worry is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere”. Instead of worrying, all the college students can turn this situation into a very productive and life-changing experience. They can do the following 5 THINGS during the homestay:

1.Read Books:

Bill gates read 50 books in a year and Warren Buffet reads 500 pages a day. I don’t have to explain their success, intelligence, and wisdom. Start reading books and it will change the way you think about everything.

2.Learn new skills online:

It is a great time to learn new skills online. There are so many skills to learn from core technical to management. LEARN SOFT SKILLS ( Not sure why they are called soft skills, in reality, they are the HARD SKILLS). Soft Skills are going to be life skills without which your growth personally and professionally will be limited.

3.Connect with a Mentor or Wise Man:

This is a great time to find a mentor or a wise man, connect with him, and have fulfilling conversations about everything around you. You will find these mentors around you and conversation with them will be refreshing.

4.Learn a Household activity:

We live in the same house for years but do not realize that our parents are multi-talented and take care of the household tasks without saying a word. It will be a good time for us to take some of those tasks and enjoy doing it such as “Cooking”, “gardening” and,” Housekeeping”. All of them are creative works.

5. Extend the helping hand:

Use this helpless opportunity to help others. Be it helping the elderly, neighbours, friends .. all of them need support physically and emotionally.

One thing NOT TO DO during this time is NOT TO WATCH THE NEWS and believe that this phase shall pass too…
